Museum Ingabo

Museum Ingabo for Contemporary Art & Storytelling for Humanity is an independent cultural institution founded by King Ngabo to advance artistic research, memory preservation, education, and contemporary creative expression through art and storytelling. Originally established in Kigali as Rwanda's first private museum dedicated to contemporary African storytelling and art for humanity, the museum became a space for dialogue, reflection, and community engagement. Following the closure of its Kigali site by the City of Kigali due to a rent dispute, Museum Ingabo entered a period of transition. Rather than bringing its mission to an end, this moment has become an opportunity to reimagine the institution and build a more sustainable future rooted in accessibility, community, and long-term cultural impact. The museum is now developing a permanent home in Gakenke District, Rwanda, where it will become a living cultural campus combining exhibition spaces, artists' studios, residencies, research facilities, and community programs. By establishing itself in rural Rwanda, Museum Ingabo aims to make contemporary art and storytelling more accessible to underserved communities while preserving memory, fostering creativity, and inspiring dialogue for future generations.
